It’s a problem familiar to many: after losing weight, stubborn fat pads refuse to shift despite taking plenty of exercise and eating a balanced diet. Typical problem areas include the stomach, thighs and hips, though some people also develop sagging cheeks or a troubling double chin.

Fat-dissolving injections can reduce small fat depots like these without any surgical intervention. A special combination of active ingredients ensures that a proportion of fat cells dissolve. Repeating the treatment makes it possible to visibly reduce unwanted, small fat pads.

Tackling stubborn fat pads without surgery

Fat-dissolving injections are a minimally invasive means of reducing small fat depots with lasting results. The official medical term for this method is injection lipolysis. It is based on a biochemical process that reduces the number of fat cells.

In injection lipolysis, Dr Kiermeir injects a special combination of active ingredients into the fat depots. These ingredients induce an inflammatory reaction – and one consequence of this reaction is that some of the fat cells dissolve. The degraded cells are then transported away and excreted out of the body.

Fat-dissolving injections are a gentle alternative to liposuction and represent a particularly effective method for tackling small fat pads. The injection begins to take effect a few weeks after the treatment is administered. However, this minimally invasive procedure is not suitable for eliminating larger fat depots. It is also important to be aware that, like liposuction, fat-dissolving injections should not be seen as a weight-loss method. Instead, these injections can support the results of weight loss and help to remove any small, persistent fat pads with lasting effects.

FAQs about fat-dissolving injections

Can fat-dissolving injections treat a double chin?

Eliminating double chins is one of the most effective applications for fat-dissolving injections. The treatment gently reduces excess fatty tissue under the chin without leaving behind any scars.

How many fat-dissolving injections will be required in a course of treatment?

Around 3 to 5 sessions is usually enough to achieve optimal treatment results. We space these sessions several weeks apart and repeat them until we achieve the desired results.

When will the results be visible?

The full effects of fat-dissolving injections become visible after around 6 weeks. However, reactions to the treatment can vary significantly from patient to patient, which makes it very difficult to issue a general statement about this. Before administering the treatment, Dr Kiermeir will always examine the results of previous sessions and discuss with you how to proceed.

How long will the results of fat-dissolving injections last?

We provide injection lipolysis with the aim of achieving long-lasting results. Once fat cells have been removed, they do not grow back. However, if a person gains a significant amount weight, new fat depots can develop. We therefore advise our patients to adopt a healthy, balanced diet and lifestyle to prevent significant weight fluctuations.

What areas can fat-dissolving injections treat?

Fat-dissolving injections make it possible to reduce smaller, stubborn fat pads that persist after weight loss. This applies in particular to typical problem areas, such as sagging cheeks, double chins, upper arms, lower abdomen, hips and saddlebags.

What are the potential risks and side effects of fat-dissolving injections?

Generally speaking, injection lipolysis is a very low-risk procedure. However, reactions to the treatment can vary from one person to the next. Some patients experience mild reactions after the treatment, such as itchiness, burning sensations, pressure pains and circulatory problems.

Following the treatment, redness and swelling almost always develop in the areas around the injection sites. These symptoms are completely normal and are part of the intended reaction to the injected fluid. Any such complaints should recede on their own after a few days.

Who might fat-dissolving injections be suitable for?

Injection lipolysis is an effective method for patients who have been unable to shift persistent fat pads by other means. These are usually small fat depots that develop due to a genetic predisposition. Such fat pads are often very stubborn and hard to shift despite plenty of exercise and a healthy diet.

Typical applications of this treatment include correcting a double chin and eliminating small fat depots in the cheeks, arms or lower abdomen. It is also an effective treatment for reducing bra bulges and saddlebags. In addition, fat-dissolving injections can be used to correct small indentations caused by past liposuction treatment.

What does the treatment involve?

Before the treatment, Dr Kiermeir will hold a personal consultation with you. He will ask about the results you hope to achieve and discuss whether injection lipolysis would be a suitable treatment method for you. If necessary, he might also suggest possible alternatives, such as liposuction.

If you decide to go ahead with fat-dissolving injections, he will work with you to plan your course of treatment. Dr Kiermeir will then take some photos to document your initial condition before the treatment. The treatment sessions themselves take place on an outpatient basis and last around half an hour. Once Dr Kiermeir has marked the treatment areas on the skin, he carefully injects the active agent solution using fine needles. This is practically pain-free for patients.

After the treatment, you can leave the practice straight away and go about your daily routine as normal. There are no specific after-care measures you need to take. However, some redness or swelling may develop immediately after the treatment. You should take this into account when planning the rest of your day after leaving our practice. We space the injections a few weeks apart and repeat them until we achieve the desired results.
